Ask the EEOC: ADA-Indiana will host its November Audio Conference, Ask the EEOC, on Tuesday, November 13th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. EST. Sharon Rennert, Senior Attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, EEOC’s ADA Division, will provide an update on EEOC enforcement and guidance activities. Additionally, an audience question and answer session will be held.

Employers, human resource professionals, advocates, people with disabilities, and other interested community members should plan to attend. No pre-registration is required and the session is free. CRC and SHRM continuing education credits will be available. Sponsored locations include:

Employment Specialist Training (EST) 2008 Schedule: The Indiana Supported Employment Training Team (ISETT) is pleased to announce its training schedule for 2008. EST is a series of intensive training sessions designed to provide basic skills to service providers who have worked as employment specialists for less than one year. Attendees learn best practices in job and career development, employment support planning, ecological analysis, follow-along, and emerging industry trends.

EST is a six-day training split into two sessions held one month apart. An exit test is required for participants seeking certification. Individuals who attend all days of both sessions and successfully complete the exit test receive a competency-based certificate from Indiana University. CEUs and CRUs are available. To date, the EST training team has trained and certified over 2,500 employment specialists in the state of Indiana. Past participants have included job coaches, teachers, job developers, parents, mental health professionals, vocational coordinators, state agency and Work One staff.

Did You Know…

IIDC Speciality Newsletters: In addition to the Indiana Institute FYI Newsletter, we
publish three additional specialty newsletters that are disseminated via print, fax, e-mail, alternative formats, and posted on the Institute’s Web sites.

The Early Childhood Center’s e-mail newsletter, ECC Program Highlights, is disseminated at no charge to Indiana’s early childhood communities. It features abstracts on the Center’s research efforts, training activities, and resources, with links to detailed information on the Center’s website. Its purpose is to update early childhood professionals and families of children with special needs regarding resources available to them. Disseminated bi-monthly, ECC Program Highlights reaches 4,500 early childhood parents and professionals per edition or 27,000 per year. Interested individuals and organizations may subscribe at no charge by sending an email request to eccenter@indiana.edu.

The Indiana Resource Center for Autism Reporter is disseminated to an audience of nearly 12,000 family members and professionals. The newsletter is distributed three times annually and covers topics including services in Indiana, behavioral and educational strategies, and other forms of techniques for supporting and educating individuals across the autism spectrum. The Reporter is free to Indiana residents. A nominal fee is charged to out of state and out of country subscribers. For more information on subscribing to the newsletter, visit the IRCA website at http://www.iidc.indiana.edu/irca.

In a new effort, the Institute’s Center for Disability Information and Referral has developed a new dissemination vehicle entitled CeDIR Citings. CeDIR Citings is disseminated each year in March and October and provides updates on Library policies and services, focused bibliographies on select subjects, book reviews, and highlights relevant information tools. CeDIR Citings is disseminated via e-mail and U.S. Mail and is available at no charge.
