ADA-Indiana Logo and LinkFebruary ADA Audio Conference: ADA-Indiana’s February Audio Conference will focus on issues associated with employment among older adults, as well as ramifications related to disability, aging, and employment. This 90 minute session, scheduled for Tuesday, February 19 from 2:00-3:30 p.m., will feature Michael Williams, Ph.D., a Rehabilitation Planning Specialist.

Overall, 15% of Americans ages 65 and older are currently working or actively seeking work. From 2000-2015, the U.S. labor force of workers over age 54 is anticipated to grow to four times the labor force. As the numbers of older adults in the U.S. continues to rise, coupled with the well documented increased prevalence of disability associated with aging, the growth in the need and deployment of assistive technology (AT) will be undeniable. 

Employers, human resource professionals, rehabilitation professionals, state and local government officials, people with disabilities, and other interested community members should plan to attend. No pre-registration is required. SHRM and CRCC continuing education credits will be available.

For every $11.00 ticket sold, $5.50 will return to local chapters of The Arc of Indiana to support children and adults with disabilities and their families. Partners in Policymaking

Governor's Council for People with Disabilities Logo and LinkPartners Recruitment: The Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities is recruiting applicants for the next Partners in Policymaking Academy scheduled for October 2008. The Partners in Policymaking Academy (PIP) offers eight weekends of intensive training designed to educate participants to be active partners with those who make policy. Each year, 35 people with disabilities and family members are selected. PIP curriculum utilizes national presenters and promotes the values of integration/inclusion, and the belief that all people with disabilities should be respected and contributing members of their communities.

Applications are distributed throughout the year and must be postmarked by Monday, June 2, 2008. Sessions are monthly beginning in October 2008 and ending with graduation in May, 2009.
